Asher hasn't had a seizure since Friday and the versed was able to be turned off today they will monitor him for another 24 hours on the EEG to make sure he still doesn't have any seizure activity, but this is a HUGE step in the right direction!! Now our focus will be strengthening his lungs and getting that breathing tube out. They have started spontaneous breathing trials throughout the days and nights to help him work on breathing on his own again. He does well, except for his co2 levels going a little higher than they want. But the doctor said that right now these are essentially workouts for his lungs as we inch towards trying to extubate. He's gotten a little feisty with no sedation, even grabbing for his breathing tube and G-tube, so the nurses have put him in no-nos to be safe and added a tiny bit of another sedative to keep him relaxed. While they don't like him doing that, I love to see it; seeing him act like his old self has helped put some of my anxiety about his MRI at ease. We met with the neuropsychologist today too, and that went well. He isn't super discouraged by Asher's MRI. He said he's going to stop by the next few days to "test drive" him and see how he's functioning, but I showed him some videos in the mean time (Asher was napping when he stopped by) and he was encouraged. He said that it isn't a super unrealistic goal to try to get him back to where he was prior to the flu, but at the same time it's not going to be surprising if he has regressed some too. So it's another wait and see thing but definitely a more positive meeting than I thought. Keep praying for our little warrior, specifically for the seizures to stay controlled and for his lungs to strengthen for possible extubation. He's still working his booty off daily and I'm definitely feeling more hopeful.
